I was speaking to him as a Flames player and prospect though. During his entire time as a Flame prospect and players he's flown under the radar. 4th round pick, surprise out of camp, unassuming defensivemen. Doesn't have that booming shot that gets noticed or those big hits etc. Just quietly developed slowly but surely.

I kind of disagree with this. Darryl was hyping him from at least his second training camp and he made the opening day roster in his rookie year before being sent down to Abbotsford to be taught how to play defence by Playfair but his offence and skating has always been known to be top flight. I look at him as fulfilling his early promise.
He also looked really good in the latter part of 12/13 when he started to take top pairing responsibilities on defence after Bouwmeester left, so for me he's never been under the radar. One thing is though there are many players with huge promise but few that reach that level like Brodie has.
