CALGARY, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed defenceman TJ Brodie to a five-year contract.
A native of Chatham, Ontario, Brodie has started the season with three goals and four assists for a six game point streak which is the longest in the NHL this season and a career high. His 176 minutes of ice time lead all players in the NHL and his seven points are tops amongst NHL defencemen. Brodie, a Flames fourth round pick in the 2008 NHL Draft, has amassed 11 goals and 55 assists for 66 points in 192 career games.

Brodie is a $4.65M AAV. Interesting: his first year is $3.9M -- a nod to Giordano, who has one year left on his deal at $4M. (1/2)

The rest is spread out evenly over four years. There is a limited NTC and a no-move clause starting in Year III, when he becomes eligible.
