The kid has driven possession at times, but has also been tentative the rest of the time and IMO there has been times where he looks afraid of getting hurt out there.
Plus last year it was November 23rd when Gaudreau played his 14th game, this year it came on October 16th. That is a pretty big transition for a kid not used to playing an 82 game season, both Hanowski and Knight mentioned how much it impacted their play last season.
Just blindly throwing your top prospects onto the ice and giving them top PP and ice time leads to the situation in Edmonton. Have some patience and let these kids actually develop.

Patience schmatience Hartley should stop sheltering him and throw him off the deep end so the armchair coaches and weenie stats guys can be more comfortable.
