Power Outage Downtown
From Nenshi via FB.
Quote:
Last night, there was an underground fire that knocked out power to part of downtown.
UPDATES:
1. Not great news on the damage caused by the underground fire. ENMAX reports that it will likely be 4-7 days without power.
2. Residents should unplug all electrical appliances and turn off stoves now to prepare for an eventual electrical surge when re-energized. If you're without power, make plans to stay safe and warm.
3. Unaffected Calgarians, please reach out to your affected friends and family to provide warmth, a place to stay, Thanksgiving dinner...
4. Impacted area is south of 4th Avenue to north of 7th Avenue, west of 5th St to east of 11 St SW. (see map in link)
5. Air quality is fine but if you're feeling unwell, call HealthLink at 403-943-5465. If it's an emergency, call 911 as always.
6. Still some traffic lights without power, but we're working quickly on getting those up. C-train should be up and running shortly (although it won't be stopping at the 7th and 8th Street stations as long as power is out to those stations).
7. We are all thankful for our amazing public servants, working through the night and every day to keep us safe.
My colleagues at The City of Calgary (organized by the Calgary Emergency Management Agency) and ENMAX have been working around the clock but power is still out for many Calgarians. I had a briefing with media at our Emergency Operations Centre at 8am today and may do more as this situation is resolved.
