I would assume they mean to take his place in the Guardians as the message referred to him being poisoned and that if he was murdered, I would take his place.
It is a question I could post to them and willing to as I'd like to use this opportunity to squeeze as much information out of them as possible.

That I don't know. Looking up what a watcher does on mafia wiki, I could target one player at night and learns who visits them, but not what actions are performed.

With the number of times we've heard of powers being re-directed, I don't think this ability would do much because I could watch someone and have something re-directed that would cause me to get a false report.
