I think that's my biggest problem with this mascot. Yes, it looks kinda stupid and like a costume you get in the dollar store, but whatever. It's a mascot.
The origin story involves how he "overcame" a firefighter and shows a fallen firefighter. I don't see any humour in that at all. I'm sure many firefighters lost their lives in that great fire as well as the numerous firefighters who risk this on a daily basis to save lives. It's completely disrespectful and unnecessary to involve a fallen firefighter in any of it's marketing.
Would have found it alot funnier if they lit this on fire and just pointed and laughed while it burned:
