It really depends on what the coaches do with it. Obviously, if it no longer becomes about getting into the playoff conversation, then I think that a good coaching staff will find other, more productive ways to frame it. At minimum, breaking the season down into these chunks is likely to make a long 82-game season feel more manageable—especially to young players who are at the start of their careers.
