Quote:
Baertschi, who arrived in Glens Falls, NY, on Wednesday, found himself in the spotlight yet again after his father Hans Ruedi and agent Andy Rufener were quoted in the Swiss paper Blick with less than flattering comments about the fact he was sent to the minors and about coach Bob Hartley.
“Did you see one quote from myself in there? Not one,” Baertschi said. “That explains the whole situation. I didn’t get a call from them. It would have been nice if they called me and I could explain the whole thing, instead he goes to my dad.
“My dad, he’s an emotional guy and he wants the best for me. That’s why I love him. He does everything he can for me, to support me, but he was too emotional about the whole thing. I didn’t even know they called my parents and they called my agent. I didn’t hear anything.
“When I saw the article, I was shocked, too. It’s something you don’t want to hear. His emotions took over and he said some things he shouldn’t have said. He called me later and when he saw the article said, ‘He didn’t write it down the way I said it.’
“He’s not as familiar with the media as I am, so he made some mistakes. He just over-reacted and didn’t make the right decision.”
Baertschi’s father said that his son under Hartley is “put in a straitjacket” and “the two will probably never be friends.”
It’s easy to assume Baertschi’s father is repeating family conversations, but the 2011 first-round draft pick said that’s not the case.
“I would assume the same thing if I saw an article like that. My dad, he knows hockey but to be honest with you, we don’t talk much about hockey,” Baertschi said. “I’m not a guy who goes home when something goes wrong at the rink and calls his dad crying and complaining and stuff. That’s not what I do. I never go to my mom and cry. That’s not what I do. I’m here in North America pretty much by myself and gotta handle it. I can’t cry to my parents.”
As disappointed as Baertschi was when he was demoted, he said a couple of days have given him the time to get his head in the right space to work his way back to the NHL.
“The last few years have been a learning process, not just as a hockey player but as a person, too,” Baertschi said. “I’m dealing with this so much better than I would have dealt with it two years ago or even last year. And I’m kinda proud of myself. Those tough times have made me where I am right now.
“The main thing for me is I want to win hockey games. I want to be the player I can be,” he continued. “The focus is on myself right now, play the best I can. For that, it’s best to not hang (my head) about what’s happened. I’m excited about this team. There’s a lot of great guys on this team and there’s a lot possible.”

Sven is a pro. He is happy to work his butt off and I'm sure he will be a top NHLer. The management is right. He has some gaps left and it doesnt help they signed Raymond and Johnny was impossible to keep off the team after his preseason. Its simple. He will go down to addy, someone will get injured he will come up sometime as long as he does his work in Addy.
Our future top 3 LW are already in the system.
Gaudreau
Baertschi
Klimchuk
We are so damn lucky to have 3 LW in our system with 1st line upside and little chance of busting.. Lets just stop making a big deal about Svens attitude. We dont know the guy and all indications are he is a smart kid who is determined to make the NHL no matter what. I saw a number of his post game interviews in Abby and he is serious, blunt but realistic and honest with him self. I like him. If he wanted out we would know about it a long time ago.
I am 100% sure this kid wont bust. All this will make him that much more humble and less complacent when he makes the big squad and stays up.
