Good: Gaudreau was damn impressive advance statwise. He had 13 zone entries, 7 of which were controlled carry-ins which led the team by a large margin.
His even strength play was also quite excellent.
Monahan's overall play was decent, he looked better at evens this game than most games last year, but he still wasn't great.
Hudler: Holy crap, he was the best forward out there tonight.
Brodie and Giordano were absolutely dominant. They will be the Flames only saving grace this season as long as they stay healthy.
Bollig did quite well for his zone starts and quality of competition (bottom 6). He broke even at even strength, which is all you can ask of a 4th liner of his ilk.
Bad: Engelland, Wideman, Smid are hot garbage. The sooner they are off the team, the better (after McDavid maybe?) Can't win with those three on the back end bleeding shots against and giving away the puck with horrible regularity.
McGrattan was useless. Not as useless as Engelland, but pretty damn close.
Colborne should never be a center ever again, and never against better than bottom 6 competition. He was horrid. Like, career AHLer horrid.
Decent: Backlund looked bad through two periods, but after a short benching, he actually picked it up and ended up being quite high on the possession metrics by the end of the game. He's probably still rusty.
Russell was ok, he was probably dragged down quite a bit by the boat anchor he was carrying around as his D partner.
Raymond looked ok, but by possession stats he was pretty terrible.
Glencross was meh. People complain about his penalties, but the guy averages less than 1 penalty every 4 games. He isn't as bad as everyone says. And he led the team in SOG.
The rest of the team was ok.
I must say again, just cause, the Smid-Wideman pairing should never see the ice, ever, again.
