Horak was offered a two way contract with the Oilers and he wanted a one way so he explored other options. The Oilers still retain his rights. He felt he would be buried in the minors because of the influx of higher picks Edmonton had and that prospects drafted by Edmonton would be given playing time over him even if he was playing well. That's what happened to him the previous season. He only had 2 call-ups despite being the best player on the ice for OKC on several occasions.
He went to one of the worst teams in the KHL to get more playing time and actually develop. And actually play centre. In Vitayz he is only playing centre and in 12 games has 5g, 4a.
