A goal is a goal and a shot on goal , shot directed at goal and a blocked shot is a broad based judged event that is not significant enough to be argued.
While you will see players try to get the credit for a goal correct, I have yet to see a coach or player argue for or against a SOG. A player has not ever gone to a scorers and said hey I was just dumping the puck in and you called it a SOG.... or didn't you see me get a piece of that shot... I should get credit for a blocked shot.
They never go and change the Fenwick (shots on goal) after reviewing the game tape.
