IMO, Russell would be the absolutely last guy you would pair him with. I would rather see a small puck mover paired with a larger, defensive defenseman.
And a good example of that is the pairing of Russell and Engelland, which has looked fantastic so far this year.
If Diaz can crack the top 6, I would think it would be with Smid as his partner.
