Wideman and Russell, definitely not.
Brodie is taking leaps offensively, and he's no defensive liability, but he lacks a real edge physically and I wouldn't say his defensive game is a strength.
Smid's game is to be a physical shut-down defenseman, and he's a 4-5 in that regard, and Giordano has a very good all around game.
So, IMO, you have two guys who can be counted on as really reliable in the defensive zone. Adding another should have been a much bigger priority than adding a Wideman clone.
