I had to leave after the second (grumble) and listened to the third on the radio, so these thoughts should reflect only the first 40:
- First two periods looked like a clash of teams that will battle each other for 13th in the west.
- Even before he went nuts in the third, Gaudreau was noticeable. He's definitely got the right instincts. Pretty much impossible to send him to Adirondack at this point.
- Bennett should get a few NHL games to start the season, but I'd probably send him back to junior
- The way Monahan looks in the pre-season, he's tracking for logarithmic improvement rather than incremental. Love the way he's playing, but still want to keep expectations in check. Would love to see him go 20g 25a with better faceoff percentage and improved possession numbers.
-Pleased as I am with Sven, I think Gaudreau bumps him down to Adirondack to start if the Flames want to give Setoguchi a chance in the regular season. Either way, I think Setoguchi ends up on waivers before October is out and Sven is in Calgary.
-Jooris does a lot of small things right. Happy to see he got rewarded in the third.
