You have to understand that teams do have to play politics, especially rebuilding teams that have a lower UFA desirability. We can't just dump players like Seto in the AHL a month after we sign them. The team needs to support the players they've invested UFA contracts into. Only when every avenue has been taken does the waiver wire become an option.

The thing is nobody wanted to sign Setoguchi to begin with, he was brought in extremely late to add competition to training camp, the guy has 0 points in the preseason, his competition is a 21 year old fresh out of College with all the skill sets in the world, the team is 5-0 with him in the lineup and he has 5 points in those 5 games.
There is not a sane person on earth who thinks Setoguchi politics or not deserves a slot on this roster over Gaudreau. If free agents use this against the flames in the future they can simple tell them exactly whats above in my previous paragraph.
