Has anyone had any experience with gate checking since the new regulations have come into effect? I'll happily volunteer to have my second carry-on piece gate checked if it will free up space in the cabin. Are the airlines allowing, encouraging, or discouraging this? Obviously it would still need to be within the allowable size limits, but many people don't need BOTH pieces on the plane.
