Never underestimate mans capacity for barbarity! I remember the couple of guiloteenings from the 70's, Spain was even worse, they garrotte their prisoners, as in strapped to a post with a knife blade at neck height then they use a windlass around the neck to push the knife through the spine, again they were doing that up until the 70's as I recall.
