Once buddy makes the NHL, then they are an adult, having to make adult decisions. Many of these players have had decisions made for them their whole lives.
I agree that in small towns they are often rock stars, but once they leave junior and make the NHL, it is ramped up a tonne.

I guess there is a reason most prospects say the biggest part of the NHL combine are the interviews. My guess is the teams drafting know the character of a player, and they also know what they will accept or not accept when they decide to draft him.
But its not like they can't get help from older players.
