Once buddy makes the NHL, then they are an adult, having to make adult decisions. Many of these players have had decisions made for them their whole lives.
I agree that in small towns they are often rock stars, but once they leave junior and make the NHL, it is ramped up a tonne.

And I would say that's more on the team to put him in an environment to succeed. That's why Monahan lived with Hudler last year until his mom moved out to Calgary to live with him. Sure if they make the wrong decisions its a mistake they have to own up to, but the team knows what type of an environment these kids are coming into and should have things in place to help ensure they thrive in it.
