There have been many occasions over the years where I've seen someone leave their bags on seats at the expense of others having to stand.

This is it in a nutshell.
It is common courtesy to move your bag if the bus/train begins to fill up. I can't speak to what led up to the video or her tone while speaking to buddy. I used to take the bus/train a lot, 5 years at Uni, and then 4 years working down town. It is a common expectation that if the train/bus is filling up that you pick up your bag and put it on your lap/floor.
