I agree, I rarely see that sort of thing anymore. Chivalry is basically dead, not completely but it's on life support for sure. I know a feminist who says it's sexist to offer a seat on a bus just because someone is a woman. Not sure how many people think this way, but she's pretty vocal about that kind of stuff but I find it's best to err on the side of caution myself. People basically have to walk on egg shells over every little thing these days because there's no telling what will offend somebody, even with the best of intentions.
