I would count Sam Bennett as an offseason acquisition, so at least he's impressed. Still can't believe we ended up landing him at 4th overall. Major coup.
Other than that, I wouldn't worry about the vets. As has been mentioned several times, seasoned NHL vets know how to pace themselves through the preseason so that they peak when it counts. The rookies can't do that because they (like it or not) don't have the job security that the older guys have.
What I like about the offseason acquisitions is that they're all secondary players. None of them are the kind of guys who would complain if a Gaudreau or Bennett eventually supplanted them in the top 6.
