IT IS CONTROVERSIAL. Like I said, the description was completely unnecessary. Subban can very simply be identified as "facing, in the centre of the photograph," and NO ONE would be confused. So, not only is his identification by skin colour totally unnecessary, the problem is greatly exacerbated because by identifying him according to his skin colour, the racial difference is emphasised. Because racial tension is real, this emphasis actually serves to enforce and confirm the notion for many that this difference is more than skin deep.

It is absolutely NOT better. And taking the care to select a different method for identification does not in any way ignore racial differences. On the contrary, it shows a keen awareness of the current problems, and in a small way hopefully helps to eliminate the well worn notion that the differences between races are insurmountable barriers.
