It's tough not to consider anyone a step down from s01, the two leads were great, and McConaughey was stunningly good, just brilliant.
The choices are good if for nothing else as it starts the buzz. I'm trusting that Those In Charge aren't just throwing these guys together hoping it works.
My biggest fear is they try to crank it up a bit and ruin it. A big part of why s01 worked so well is that they were able to continue to build the dramatic tension to the end, the layering of plot points was almost perfect, it had a natural pace.
If they go too far, if they overblow the characters, if they make the plot complex just for the sake of complexity...there so make ways they can break it.
They don't need to better the last one, all they need to do is stay true to the vision that brought s01 to fruition.
