Bagor: I agree but players just love playing for the countries too much. They fear (realistically or not) that their federations can boot them off the team or the federations themselves can be suspended by FIFA. FIFA has suspended federations for things as simple as using an ineligible player in a youth tournament.
Maybe I'm not as patriotic as most but when it comes to sports, I would be club before country. The club pays my wages. I don't get why players kill themselves to play in a tournament where the bureaucrats get all the money.
