Not having access to Apple's or anyone else's books it's difficult to say what a company "should" be charging, Apple certainly puts more effort into some aspects of their devices compared to others which costs a lot of money. What does "should" mean anyway? That a company only be allowed to mark up their hardware by a certain amount?
Yes, and the market (Sony, Samsung, Google, HTC, etc) have all said the outright price of a smartphone should be between $350 and $700. But Apple goes over and above, up to $1000?

I was more or less showing that drinking the kool-aid works for Apple.

What? Are you serious? No. I've said I'm bothered by a company that charges an exorbitant amount for it's technology, when it doesn't need to be that high.

I'll admit: yes, Apple makes a beautiful device. I've posted that before. Yes, the eco-system is awesome. It all works. It's simple. It all flows. Hell, my Dad is looking to get something to replace his BlackBerry Bold, and I'm close to suggesting the iPhone, because of how easy it'll be for him to migrate (physical keyboard to touch, ease of use, etc).

Yes it is. That's what bothers me about it.

I was very close to getting an iPhone this time around. But when I read about the specs, price, etc I decided to stick with Android.

The idea of having a 5.5" Apple is very appealing. Look at all the Apple stores and different telco dealers out there: they're all sold out of the 6 Plus. Some Android people are switching. I just don't think the outright price is justified.

Contract pricing is ridiculous, as well.
