Sadly, the thing that stands out about Kessel's comments are his candour. A lot of star players in the NHL are treated differently from the rank and file. Elite athletes are a spoiled bunch, and they're often treated with kid gloves by management.
I agree that you need your star players to buy in, ultimately, to have sustained team success. But there are a lot more teams in the NHL than just the Leafs who don't have that top-to-bottom buy-in. And as Flames fans we should recognize that up until last season we were one of those teams.
