Default GAME 12 : STAMPEDERS at Montreal

Last game against was probably the worst start Stampeders had this season. It was also one of the best comeback in the CFL. Unfortunately with that win it came with the price. Stampeders lost 5 players due to injury that game and all 5 players (QB Bo Levi Mitchell, SB Marquay McDaniel, DE Charleston Hughes, DT Demonte Bolden and DL Ben D'Aguilar) will miss the Montreal game. Add RB Jon Cornish, who won the Offensive Player and Canadian Player of the week, to those players missing Montreal game.

The game in Montreal is the Canadian Football Hall of Fame game and one of the inductees is one of the most influence person in Stampeders history. Former Stamps head coach and GM Wally Buono will be inducted. Congrats to Wally. He is one of the reason why I can still cheer for Lions once in awhile especially against the Riders and the Eskimos.

OFFENSE :

QB Drew Tate will be in action against the Als. Tate engineered a huge comeback win last week after BLM left the game. He was a perfect 6 for 6 for 74 yards and 2 TDs. RB Jon Cornish rushed for 174 yards last week and the biggest was his career high 79 yard TD run. I always thought he rushed for TD longer that 79 yards before but I guess I was mistaken. Cornish will miss the game and it was suspected minor shoulder injury. With Cornish out, the task of rushing the ball is now in the hands of starter Matt Walter and backup Hugh Charles. SB Nik Lewis had his best game this season last week. He caught 7 passes and was also great in helping with blocking. With McDaniel gone for the game, Lewis might be Tate's go-to guy vs Als.

DEFENSE :

Stamps D gave up more than 30 points and 4 TDs for the second straight game (vs Edmonton and vs Toronto). I am sure Stublers' boys are not too happy with that stat and will try to go back to their early season form. I am sure they will pressure QB Jonathan Crompton a lot in this game. Unfortunately they will do without their Top Defensive player Charleston Hughes. They will also miss their interior lineman Demonte Bolden vs the Als. DLine got hit by injury bug lately (Mace already missed a game) will start Lemon, Evans, Turner and Bishop III. Quinn Smith and Frank Beltre will backed them up. DE Shawn Lemon, the veteran on the DLine will need to be the catalyst on this group. Expect the Als to double him up the same every team does to Hughes. Lemon had his 1st INT in his CFL career last week.
Interesting game for LB Deron Mayo last week. He recorded 6 tackles, a fumble recovery and a KICK on a groin from Argos RB Slaton. MLB Juwan Simpson had a good 2nd half game vs Argos recorded 7 tackles and 1 sack. Against Montreal in Week 1, he had 3 tackles and sacked QB Troy Smith once. HB Brandon Smith recorded 10 tackles and 1 pass knockdown last week. He also had a good game in Week 1 vs Als with 5 tackles and 1 special team tackle. CB Quincy Butler in his first game this season played well in the 2nd half with 4 tackles. DB/LB Keon Raymond will play his 100th career CFL game.

SPECIAL TEAM :

Last week was probably one of the worse game special team played. Everytime Cunningham had a good return, the ball has to come back due to holding or illegal block penalties. I am sure ST coach Mark Killam talked to the group after the game and hopefully tgey will eliminate those penalties vs the Als.

************************
According to Stamps depth chart, RB Hugh Charles, RG Brad Erdos, WR Joe West, QB Paschall, DB Adam Thibault, DL Frank Beltre and Freddie Bishop III are going in to replace RB Jon Cornish, QB Bo Levi Mitchell, SB Marquay McDaniel, DE Charleston Hughes, DT Demonte Bolden and DL Ben D'Aguilar. RB Jock Sanders and RG Dan Federkeil will not be suiting up for 2nd game in a row.
