You can be a "Samsung Fanboy" or a "HTC fanboy", but an actual Android fanboy is a bit much, particularly since Android can be uniquely manipulated by users if they so desire (making it more open obviously). So not every Android device is even the same, unlike Apple.
Being an "Apple Fanboy" can wholly apply because there is literally only 1 product that can run Apple. I think people mostly mock Apple Fanboys because they are the equivalent to US Republicans, they live in an Apple bubble where other quality products are dismissed as subpar entirely because they don't have the words "Apple" attached. It's like if you did the Pepsi Taste challenge: if you erased every Apple Fanboys memory, gave them the new iPhone 6 or the Galaxy S5, it would be close to an even split (because really, is there that much different in the phones? Certainly not enough for 100% to choose one over the other). But without erasing their memories it'd be 100% Apple because....because why? It's bizarre mostly. I know the ecosystem entrapment has a lot to do with people refusing to leave Apple though. Making switching costs high is one of Apple's smarter moves.

I disagree with this. Lots of Apple users realize that the competition is putting out solid products and even if they didn't pay attention to the tech every android fanboy never lets your forget about their HD screens, camera resolution, etc. Seriously it's hard to talk any Apple or phones without some annoying fanboy calling you a sheep or telling what brand X has done better for years.
For most Apple users it all comes down to sticking with what you like and what's been solid and reliable for you. People still by the Honda Civic in droves even though the competition has closed the gap and in a lot of cases surpassed the Civic in a lot of areas. People don't seem to care as their last Civic was reliable and trustworthy and regardless of the great reviews of other cars they continue to buy Civics and it remains the top selling car in Canada and top selling compact in the US.
For a person like me that's had very good luck with Apple products and loves their OS what would I gain purchasing a Galaxy S5 over an iphone 6? Go to a new operating system that I may like better or may not. Go to hardware that may be less reliable. Lose compatibility with other devices in my household. Just not worth it to me and at the end of the day it's just a phone and the little things like pixel density simply don't matter to most people.
