There really isn't a lot left out there to pioneer. There's a cap in size before the big phones turn into glorified tablets so it's going to boil down to quality and execution which just happens to be Apple's forte. If you are looking at phone A and phone B do you really care which phone did what first? Most people only care about which phone today is the best.
Those Samsung ads over the weekend were embarrassingly, cringe worthy. At least Apple attached humour to their "I am a Mac" campaign years back while the Samsung ads looked like PC attack ads devoid of humour or tact. Just another reason why Apple is so successful as even their attack ads are more polished.
