take aways from watchign the flames games:
- Granlund/ferland/gaudreau looked like they are ready to make a real case come training camp
- bennet looked good, but don't see any need for him to make the move to the NHL this year. he's a tenacious player, a year of growth will make him a lock next year.
- gaudreau looked great, but i think he needs to get at least a month in at the AHL level to really learn how to avoid getting in positions to take big hits. his skill and vision are ready for the NHL though.
- curious about klimchuk, had a great final game, but other than that, didn't really jump out as a former 1st round pick
- smith is huge.... curious how he looks next camp after a year of hopefully rounding out his offensive game
- our d prospects are severly lacking. thought ramage was our best dman, and kanzig was decent. seiloff was a better skater than i thought but can be a careless with the puck
other team thoughts:
- thought winnipeg/calgary were ahead overall as far as the teams go this tournament. even though they lost to the oilers by a goal, they dominated the game and the shots despite being severely shorthanded most of the game
- really liked ehlers and petan's games
- wish we say draisatl/nurse in the oiler game
- heard nurse handed out a pretty nasty knee on knee hit.... i actually think oiler fans should be excited that they have a bit of a nasty edge guy in nurse
- horvat came as advertised as a solid 2 way guy, but didn't see any game breaking offense from the canucks. shinkaruk seems a bit selfish in his play, and not overly effective at even this prospect camp level. was surprised at how average their other forward prospects (fox, gaunce, jensen) looked. Too bad we couldn't see their 1st round picks from this year.
bring on main camp!
