What should happen in these situations is they are prepared for them. Then when discovered the situation is dealt with in prescribed steps. Is criminal activity involved then follow the steps necessary. If not then have steps in place to follow.

In all cases they should be trying to help the offender realize he needs help and giving it to him/her. NOT seeing how much they can do the high and mighty pile on junk.

I do argue about the second part of your posting. The NFL and any professional sports league and any team within these entities are not a rehabilitation or counseling entity. They can simply choose to employ you or not, They choose not to employ a wife beater. Just like they aren't responsible for rehabilitation of Aaron Hernandez and cut ties with him.
