For months, player and team have been saying the right things. Bennett has declared that he’s going to make the opening-day roster of the Flames. Meanwhile, general manager Brad Treliving is insisting that the boy is a long-shot to stick around. But the calling card of Bennett, fourth overall pick in June, is determination. That’s how he is advertised — and anyone who watched him bowl over Keegan Kanzig, six foot six and 248 pounds, in a chase for a loose puck at the summer camp can vouch for that. Plenty of pluck here. This is the first step in his plan to swipe someone’s job. Don’t count him out.
