Those branches that jump up 3-4ft when you knock the snow off are what kept me going all day. As you know you're saving some pretty big branches. Seeing all the split branches was the worst though, as I know a lot of these trees are going to have to come down.
My whole street is city owned trees, and I know the city is going to come in and either
a) butcher them
b) cut them down completely.
Neither option is good and just further motivation to try and mitigate the damage now, rather than letting a bunch of non-arborists massacre my neighborhood.
