That's the problem with Superhero movies, most people who direct them aren't familar with the material or want to go on their own tangent.
From reports, Raimi doesn't have Spider-Man in the black symbiote suit with the white spider on it (that later becomes Venom), instead it's just the normal costume but dark colored. That totally sucks.
As for Kevin Spacey, he's playing Lex Luthor as Gene Hackman played Lex Luthor - an overthetop campy villain which unfortunately is a relic of the 1978 movie and doesn't belong here or in the character. But as it's sort of a faux sequel I suppose it works. But still, it's a campy Luthor with a bunch of comical henchmen and an annoying lady companion following him around instead of Lex Luthor the vicious evil scientist/executive. Sort of a Cancer-Man with money that he is in the comics.
Both look very lame. Bryan Singer, who directed the new Superman reportedly told a convention room full of fans that he had never read a Superman comic prior to directing the movie. That is a serious problem right there...but you know what? Even if these movies aren't true to the actual comics, people will still flood to them not knowing any better or even care. Studios will make their money, and we'll keep getting movies like this.
