I would never have Doomsday as the only villain, just like there should have been more to Bane in the final Batman movie (and Ra's daughter). But he can serve a great purpose, and in the end if he does take Superman to the edge they can grip our emotions as Supes makes the choice of a life time and we the audience having seen this arc before will expect a death, or should we? Will they change it for the movies? Does he even choose to save Metropolis over Lois?
When he snapped Zod's neck I could not help but say What the (3@!!!!! right in the theatre.. Superman ... killed someone? Pretty clear they are trying to separate this Superman from the one we are used to seeing. What if he does choose Lois over Metropolis and some of the JLA survive, what do you think Batman would have to say about that choice? Lots of different ways to go with this..

Maybe Doomsday makes a passable summer blockbuster, but he's such a flimsy villain. There's no conflict between him and anyone on earth that's readily apparent, which makes him little more than a walking, talking McGuffin.
I have been thinking the best thing they could possibly do is make their justice league movie as an adaptation of Blackest Night. You get all the major heroes and you tackle the issue of superheroes never staying dead
You kill off someone important, and you make the sacrifice matter. Most importantly, just throw the audience in. We know who all these people are, And if we don't, google it or ask the fat guy in line behind you wearing the Atom t shirt.
Whatever you do, ensure Guillermo del Toro directs it, not Zack Snyder. #### that guy. Maybe read a superman book before you make another movie.
