The Avs that MacKinnon joined were basically the same team that finished 2nd last in the league. The talentless Flames team that Monahan joined finished better than them.
The Avs added Tanguay (for 16 games) replacing David Jones and McGinn for Kobasew.... other than that they were the same team.
MacKinnon made the rest of the team better..... much better. He was arguably the best player for the Avs in the playoffs.
