While there is undoubtedly a power imbalance between the genders that gives rise to crimes like this, I do think some perspective is needed in the rhetoric in discussing this issue.

Kate Upton, for example, has made a fortune exploiting that very imbalance. Her whole 'career' is premised upon wanting people to want to see her naked. Her last (only?) movie role in that garbage 'The Other Woman' was the male fantasy of the busty, blonde, bimbo who is really good at sex and not much else. At one point in the film, she was walking so hard to bounce her ample bosom, I thought she was going to give herself a black eye. She is already worth millions, as is her family, so it's not like she took the role in response to being a long-term starving actor.

She absolutely did not deserve to have her phone hacked. And whoever did it should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But if we're going to call people "scumbags" for looking at leaked pics of her - which I think is pretty harsh - we may do well to at least comment on her (and others') role in perpetuating and profiting from the very objectification of women that leads to this kind of criminal activity and which many of us are properly decrying.

The problem here isn't just nerds whacking at their computer. It's a systemic mistreatment of young women by all corners of society.
