I agree with polak. You guys are making a giant issue of the concept of checking a text quickly at a red light.

The real problem is texting while moving, but we tend to want to make laws as black and white as possible, much like rules in hockey, to minimize the subjectivity.

I despise texting and driving, so don't mistake me for some kind of softie. Operating a vehicle is something I take seriously. But checking a text briefly while stopped at a red light is not the issue we need to worry about.
