It was a lot more calculated that that really, people like to dump on that because the media loves to push people down but the truth is... she didn't want to be that star and did everything in her power to be out of that
It's no coincidence that the album after I Do Not Want was in fact was a Big Band album... if you want to be moved off the charts thats the way to do it. Along the way, along with the big band album, she has also recorded a reggae, Irish Trad, Religions albums too . Any time she's went along and played the game and had what would be a "comeback" album by the music industry she has found an easy way to go back into isolation to deflate he own rise.
The SNL live stunt is way over rated and had very little to do with her being off the charts... it's created a lot more heat for her and if she was interested that heat could have been cashed in for major cash. While most wanted her to be that angry doc wearing bald rebeling teenager the turth was she was a mother and that was her thing
