The Catholic church teaches that it is a person's good works that earn them their way into heaven. This is the definition of religion and what sets the Christian faith apart from religion. The Bible teaches that there is nothing a person can do to earn their way to heaven on their own, it is only through repentance and faith in Jesus that one can get right with God and make it to heaven.

I understand that to someone who isn't a part of either faith this may seem like splitting hairs over doctrine, but salvation is what makes someone a Christian. So when the Bible teaches that there is only one way to attain salvation and the Catholic church teaches the complete opposite, hopefully you can see how Catholic and Christian can not be the same thing.
I can't believe I'm going to say this but by your definition the Catholic Church looks like the good guys in this situation.

Be a good, honest, charitable person all your life but don't believe in Jesus - Eternal Hellfire!

Be a terrible person, steal, rape, murder but repent and believe in Jesus - Welcome to Heaven!

If that's what your heaven is count me out.
