Alberta only ratified Canada's same Sex marriage laws in 2005. In 2000, the province used the non-withstanding clause to change legislation so that 'marriage' only reflected heterosexual couples.
Alberta's official opposition party voted unanimously
this year to not support gay/straight alliances in Alberta public schools.
