I agree with you, but it's for the scenarios where supervision isn't available. Kids shouldn't be picking up needles on the ground either, but I'm going to inform them that while all parts of the needle can be dangerous, the tip is especially dangerous.

Kids i'm with still come and get me if there's something they think is dangerous.

I don't think education is ever harmful for those instances.
Hopefully grandpa was smart enough not to keep a loaded shotgun in the attic(or anywhere in the house) unfortunately this isn't the case all too often.

Young kids should be taught that guns are "bad" and to run from them and teenagers should be taught how to respect them. but gun culture somehow trys to make them fun.
