The last 5 games of the season he played on the fourth line with Westgarth and McGrattan/Van Brabant for the majority of even strength shifts. He was still capable of getting 15 minutes doing so. Some of this may have been because of players like Gaudreau and Arnold playing games, but that's also without Stempniak here.
Getting the odd shift on the second line, or sometimes more accurately having a 2nd line player get the odd shift on the fourth line, doesn't really change the fact that there is a fourth line.
