The season seriously can not start soon enough. I see this signing as two fold. The first it creates a situation where people will have to battle out and earn a spot. Good.
Secondly, if for some reason Setoguchi makes the team it means he out played a player on the verge of making the team. The flip side of that is we are going to a rather strong team farm team IMO. Installing the culture and having a winning team is probably a lot better for the prospects coming up. This helps insulate the prospect and probably a better environment to develop. Good
Losing sucks and even for the most stable veteran it can get taxing. The Flames have worked so hard building the culture that right now the start of the season isn't as important as the end when slotting in the rookies. I think what they did last year was the perfect way to insert youth to help development. The end game for these kids isn't September or October 2014, it's September/October 2015 and beyond.
