If another chain came along with superior quality products, but wasn't Canadian, it would fail because many would feel like "traitors" for choosing to support superior international products rather than inferior national products. Tims has wisely leverage the Canadiana element to surpress the fact the quality of the products is rather poor.

Tim Hortons is basically a monopoly, it truly competes against no one in Canada. I mean if you wanted a dozen donuts right now, I don't even know where else could you even get it besides Tim's, without having to do a detailed search or drive halfway around the city, or going to Safeway or a grocery bakery. And with their foothold nobody is coming in to challenge them. It's gonna take a major eff up for Tim's to ever fall in Canada.
