This is a good stat to point out, but I don't think it tells everything as there are a couple other factors to consider.
I'm not sure how many power play points Hayes got before/afterwards, but he likely went from the 1st to 2nd power play unit when moving to Gaudreau's line. Less pp time will usually mean less production. He'd also be facing tougher competition when playing even strength on the top line.
His production without Gaudreau is surprising and impressive nonetheless.
