Buy the nicer car, and don't worry about what others think. However, if this is less philosophical and more practical about the actual model, then I would ask you, do you like massive blindspots? How do you feel about odd window placement? If you are in favor of both or either, then the SRX is for you.
Nearly signed a deal for a 2013 SRX, and thought it was the cats meow until I test drove a Q5. It was like going from a big lumbering box that was nearly impossible to see out, to an SUV that drove like a nice sedan.
I'd explore other options, unless you're getting a wicked deal.
