I know a couple players on this team through rugby but knew even more from the last generation of players (so the 2010 and 2006 World Cups) and all that can really be said is that it is amazing what a little bit of funding can do. Most of the ones I knew had to go at it alone, and so did the team essentially, so many players eventually moved on early because of family, careers or whatever else. With a program funding boost as well as more individual funding thanks to rugby sevens being in the Olympics we've now seen a pretty quick turnaround from a team that kept underachieving and had little stability (a revolving door of coaches, random practice times and venues) to the level they could always have been at.

The women's side is where the game is growing in Canada, this will certainly help make it grow even more I think. Hopefully they can give England a run.
