I found an old thread on Mike Bullard who I thought was pretty good.

How soon they forget....Mike Bullard came to CGY in one of most interesting 'tampering stories' I have heard.

Bullard was playing and hating it in Pittsburgh on a floundering team where he was racking up numbers without really much in the way of defensive responsibilities or inclinations..this guy was a scoring machine in Minor Hockey and Major Junior.

Story goes that our coaches were sick of Quinn whining when he didn't get to play with Lanny, and targeted Mike Bullard from Pitt. for a trade. Apparently Pitt. would not deal Bullard straight across for Quinn, so Jim Peplinski phoned Mike Bullard, and mentioned they were trying to trade for him. Next practice Bullard told the coach his coaching was a joke, and the rest is history.

This was actually pretty common knowledge amongst Flames Fans in CGY at one time. I think it was even in the Sun IIRC.

Regardless of the accurracy of the story, Bullard went from a disgruntled -45 scoring forward on Pitt. to a +25 103 point player(2nd only to Loob) in his last year in CGY. He was also Calgary's top producing player in the 1986-87 playoffs, and the best Flame by a mile in that series. I can attest to that from memory.

From what I know 'Bully' was heart broken after he was dealt to St. Louis for Gilmour and and so digusted after being moved again to Philly later that year he snubbed the NHL and went to play in Europe for the rest of his career.

Very shifty and exciting player to watch for most of his career.
